St. Louis City Circuit Court Now Top in ATRA Ranking of Judicial Hellholes

The American Tort Reform Association has released their 2016-2017 Judicial Hellholes report, and they have named the circuit court in St. Louis City the most unfair in the nation.

The report cites lax evidentiary standards and weak venue restrictions as significant issues, noting that “four of the top six product liability verdicts in the United States this year came out of St. Louis’s Circuit Court.”  This includes the notorious junk-science-backed baby powder cases that have awarded hundreds of millions of dollars to three plaintiffs who do not even live in Missouri.

Our state is fast becoming a magnet for frivolous lawsuits that destroy jobs and take hundreds of millions of dollars out of our economy every year.  Meaningful tort reform is the only way to fix this, and the Adam Smith Foundation encourages you to call your local lawmakers and tell them how vital it is to pass tort reform in 2017.
